19th May 2021 — On 9 May, The Royal School Race team set off to Goodwood Motor Circuit to try out their luck with racing Royal 1 (their spectacular car!) against 39 other cars. This is the school's first year racing and the team includes: Laylan, Milo, Charlie F, Louis, Emmanuel, Halina, Amelie and the wonderful Mr Simmons and Mrs Salt.

The first driver was Emmanuel and in the practice session he clocked up 2 more mph than the team's last outing at Bedford. Mr Simmons tracked the stats very closely and after 7 more practice laps (and lunchtime) we were ready to race!

Milo drove the car for the first race and commented, “When you are in the car you feel the vibration of the car since you are so low down to the ground. The batteries on the car were quite low so, when we got to go downhill we were meant to coast to preserve battery life.”

The team said "The car at the moment is very quick off the start but the other cars catch up after a while, so we want to make our car faster without changing the gear ratio so we keep our acceleration. Mr Simmons is working on a list and plan for the car’s makeover! We had a great day at an iconic race track but now it's back to the workshop to make our improvements before we race again…"

The Royal School, Surrey (Coed 11-18) is a day and boarding school in Surrey.
