21st October 2021 — Blue Coat’s UII Hockey team are celebrating becoming regional champions. In the recent IAPS Tournament, which saw 14 of the region’s leading independent schools field their best teams, Blue Coat girls won all of their six games played without conceding a single goal!
BCS Sport has certainly seen an upturn with sports skills being introduced from a much earlier age. The younger children in Pre-Prep have access to specialist sports staff and facilities such as the School’s Astroturf and 25m indoor pool. Co-curricular clubs, performance and development squads and a packed programme of intra-school and external fixtures has improved the strength and depth of sporting talent that Blue Coat is now producing.
Director of Sport, Mrs Tammy Bennett commented,
“We have never achieved this before and it feels even better as we are on the cusp of celebrating 300 years since the School’s foundation. I am so proud of our girls, one of whom, Susie Tomlinson, was also named Player of the Tournament by the tournament umpires. Three of our girls have since been approached with offers of sports scholarships by hosts, Rugby School; a testament to their hard work and tremendous play. I now look forward to continuing to work with the Squad and preparing them for the Nationals.”
