5th March 2021 — Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day 2021! The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Share A Story’ and all throughout the day we posted video book reviews and recommendations from pupils and staff on our Instagram page.
The First picture above is Evelyn (Upper Sixth, Winfield) who also sent us this picture and lovely review of ‘The Goldfinch’ by Donna Tartt: ‘After reading the Secret History I was enthralled by Tartt’s style and The Goldfinch is everything you hoped it would be. The novel is part coming-of-age story, part mystery, part rumination on the value of a human life versus the value of art, and through characters who are as complicated and nuanced as real people, Tartt takes us on a stunning journey. Tartt’s writing is evocative yet accessible and I would highly recommend you give it a read! ‘
Although we could not all be together as we normally would, it was great to see so many members of the school community taking part, dressing up and talking about their favourite books or great books they have read recently! There was quite a range of books discussed, from classics such as ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen to more recent novels of lockdown-fame like ‘Where the Crawdads Sing‘ by Delia Owens – this one actually came up twice!
You can watch snippets of the reviews in the summary video below, or to watch the videos in full head to our Instagram page here where you will see a selection of longer videos on our grid and a story ‘highlight’ called World Book Day with many shorter reviews on!
Well done to everyone who took part and shared a story!
