11th November 2021 — Current pupils, teachers, staff, and former pupils gathered around its War Memorial and, following a two minutes’ silence and the playing of The Last Post by a lone trumpeter, wreaths were laid by Jamie Search, Ashville’s Chair of Governors, Ian Brown, President of the Ashvillian Society, and the current two pupil Heads of School.
The Remembrance service was led by Rev Dr David Barker, the College Chaplain, and Rhiannon Wilkinson, the Head of Ashville College.
During the First World War, 300 former Ashvillians were called up and 38 died in the conflict. Eight of those were killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
In the Second World War, 465 former pupils and teachers volunteered for the forces, and of those 59 were killed.
