West Buckland Year 5 and 6 tennis squad were crowned North Devon Champions after a very tightly contested and exciting tournament at Tarka Tennis Centre last week.

In one of the three competitions, West Buckland’s pairing of Brad Lock and Freddie Tucker reached the semi-finals where they won against Ilfracombe Junior school, meeting Southmead School in the final. After a 6-0 lead in the tie break, Southmead came back to 5-6, with West Buckland just holding their nerve to win the competition.

In the other event, Eric Lorimer and Freddie Lloyd were runners up in their pool, taking them into the semi-final, where they had a very narrow win over the winners of Pool B. Taking on Sticklepath Primary in the final, the match was all square and needed a tie break to settle the competition. Freddie Lloyd ran every ball down and Eric Lorimer made a nuisance of himself at the net - a tantalising match to watch, with West Buckland squeaking the victory to become North Devon Champions!
