5th February 2018 — It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to reach the top but Newton Abbott water polo star Thomas Manley (Year 12), has been selected for his debut in the England senior men’s team. The senior international men’s game, England v Scotland, will take place in Sheffield on Sunday Feb 11th 2018. The match is being hosted by the British Water Polo League at Ponds Forge during a BWPL Super 5s weekend. The provisional start time for the game is 15:15 on Sunday, following the BWPL Women Super 5s matches earlier in the day.

Manley said: “A lot of people play football, but water polo is a minority sport and I enjoy playing it more than football, although football is still there in the background, I still enjoy it.

“I’ve always aspired to be like Stefano Tempesti, a five-time Olympian who plays for Italy and other players like him. I want to be my own individual player though, grow up to be my own player in my own eyes. I want to build on the fact that these players have achieved greatness by themselves, and I’d like to get higher than those.”
