16th October 2019 — Spratton’s equestrian team had a wet, muddy but highly successful outing to Aston Le Walls on Sunday for the National School’s Equestrian Association (NSEA) Beachborough Eventer Trial.

A large team – sporting their new school, cross-country hat covers – tackled courses that combined showjumps with cross-country obstacles. Spratton fielded an impressive 11 riders, spanning in age from Emily Spencer aged just five to Bella Ruddle in year eight. It was also wonderful to welcome new members to the team.

The 40cm team was victorious. A special well done to Charlotte Spencer, Emily Spencer and Florence Campion (who was also individually fourth) for their excellent rounds. Florence also took an individual third place in the 60cm.

Alice Mackaness was the individual winner of the 70cm class and has qualified for the national championships at Hickstead next year. The final icing on the cake of a long day was the 80cm team of Bella Ruddle, Daniel Gibbard, Iona Gilbertson-Hart and Alice winning that class and also taking a team qualification for the Hickstead championships.

Spratton riders are representing the school at another national championships later this week. Jemima Cooper competes as an individual in the NSEA National Showjumping Championships at Addington on Thursday and then is part of a team, which also includes Daniel Gibbard, Willow Docker and Imogen Lott, on Friday. The very best of luck to them!
