25th June 2018 — On Saturday 23rd June 2018, The King's U11 netballers travelled to the Copperbox Arena in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. Eight teams, all South East finalists from tournaments held in March, were invited to compete against each other. For the two schools lucky enough to reach the final, the ultimate prize was to walk out with Superleague players from Surrey Storm and Loughborough Lightning and then to play the final during half-time of this televised Superleague match.

On the back-end of an incredible season, winning three Netball Tournaments and being placed fifth in the Country, this opportunity was within our grasp.

With a huge group of supporters, King’s stormed through the first pool in short 8 minute matches. With victories over East Sheen Primary, Yateley Manor Prep School and most outstandingly, Hoebridge Prep School (National Prep School Champions 2018), we gained our place in the Semi-Finals.

Granville Prep School were our opposition. Having already played them three times this season with a win, a draw and a loss against them, the stakes were high. Both teams passionate to play at London Live went out on court with a new determination to win. A ‘2-2’ draw at half-time kept us on our toes. 2 goals down with 2 minutes to go, Mrs Heddershaw and Miss Pembroke thought the dream has ended. However astonishingly, the girls pushed themselves beyond their limits and fought back to take a win of 5 – 3.

King’s Preparatory School had just won a place in the final, live on sky sports, walking out with superleague players and achieving an unforgettable end to the most incredible season.

Whilst winning the final would be the icing on the cake, we told the girls to enjoy the opportunity and just play their game. They had made both us and their families incredibly proud to have achieved the ultimate prize and whatever the result they had performed above and beyond their best.

For them it wasn’t enough and playing St Swithun Preparatory School, they easily led the game, winning 6 – 2 infront of crowds of thousands, netball scouts and above all their families and teachers.

On Saturday, King’s U11 Netball team put their School on the map of talent. We are so proud of them.
