1st June 2020 — Thursday afternoons have seen a number of former King’s cricketing pupils, including Jos Buttler, Tom Banton, Eddie Byrom, and Charlie Morris, discussing a variety of technical, tactical and psychological elements of the game with both King’s College and King’s Hall School pupils. During the course of each masterclass, pupils had the opportunity to engage remotely and send in their questions for the guest cricketer to answer,

The webinars have been so popular that a number of people in the wider community have asked to access them – to learn from the best – and this has been offered freely.

In addition, King’s has also been providing sport psychology sessions, looking at flow, confidence in sport and mental preparation on event days.

Director of Sport at King's, Phil Lewis, who was responsible for the idea and the sessions, said: “It’s been interesting to see how changes in circumstances make us think in different ways. These webinars and programmes have been designed to support our pupils even though we are a distance away. Not only has it been wonderful to tap into the knowledge and experience we have available from former pupils, but also to catch up with some characters who are very special to the school and the wider community.

He continued: "We can’t thank them enough and we wish them all the best for when their respective sports return. We certainly hope to keep using this method to keep our current and past pupils in touch in the future and this is certainly a bright spark to come out of these challenging times.”
