10th February 2020 — Moulsford Year 8 pupil Emerson Proctor has had a spectacular start to his international skiing career with two individual podiums in Andorra. Emerson was part of a ten strong GB children’s team that took part in the Trofeu Borrufa international children’s races over four days. With 25 competing nations such as France, Spain, Italy, Chile and Russia and over 200 racers, Emerson competed in Giant Slalom, Slalom, Alpine Combined (Super G and Slalom) and Super G and raced in a hugely competitive field of 50 Under 14 boys.
His first success came on day two when he took second place in Slalom, just 0.1 off the top spot. He put down two strong runs to give him his first taste of real success on the international circuit. It was also good experience of how the top skiers operate with the fastest skiers from run one going in reverse order. Qualifying with the third fastest time he was third from last to go and he showed he can keep a good head in pressure situations. He made up one space to finish runner-up.
In the Alpine Combined, he put down a good slalom run with a late bib draw which put him in 7th position with a chance on the second leg of Super G, the speed discipline. Again one of the last racers out of the gate he kept his nerve and put down a solid run to make up two places and finish 5th overall and another podium.
Emerson was also selected as one of four members of the GB team for parallel slalom event. This was an exciting head to head event held under the floodlights at night and in freezing temperatures! GB made it to the semi-final stage and finished 4th and another podium.
Emerson commented, "I was super proud to be part of the GB children’s ski team for the Trofeu Borrufa international races. I was so pleased to come away with my first international podiums and would like to thank my coaches for their support. This was just the first step for me and I will push myself to newer levels each time."
