Cranleighans Make England Training Squads

Following the Futures Cup at the end of August, Cranleigh have seven athletes across all four squads attending the first England hockey training sessions over the next two weekends.

At Futures Cup the U15 Boys tournament saw Ben and Will’s team, Wessex Leopards, win silver. Having beaten Mercia Lynx 4-0 and Penine Pumas 3-2, they took the lead against Caledonian Cougars (Scotland) before succumbing 2-3 in a fast final.

In the Girls U15, Mattie Hamilton and Boau-Lilly Shepherd were in the Wessex Leopard side that came third after a shootout victory in the bronze medal match. They beat Mercia Lynx 3-0 before losing 2-3 to Caledonian Cougars (Scotland U16). They then drew 2-2 with Penine Pumas before claiming bronze with a 2-1 shootout win.

Olly Witts was in the Boys U17 competition. Having beaten Mercia Lynx 2-1, they were 0-3 down to Scotland U18 before rallying for a 4-4 draw which wasn’t quite enough for them to qualify for the final, missing out on goal difference. They finished by just losing another close match 3-4 to Saxon Tigers in the bronze medal game.

The Girls U17 Wessex Leopards included Rosie Hope and Ella Job who lost their first pool game 0-3 to Saxon Tigers before earning a creditable 1-1 with Caledonian Cougars. They finished by beating Celtic Jaguars (Wales) 2-0.
