15th October 2019 — Bancroft's U18 girls defended their Essex hockey title in style at Old Loughtonians Hockey Club. In a series of superb performances against Coopers’ Coborn, Chelmsford CHS and Brentwood, as well as local rivals Chigwell, they notched up a grand total of 21 goals while goalie and captain Anika Mayor kept a clean sheet.
Following this, as undisputed county champions, they travelled to Ipswich on for the East Regional Play Offs, to face teams from Kent, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Norfolk. Matches against Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School and the Royal Masonic School both resulted in goalless draws. Goals from Emilia Parsons, Eleanor Channer and, England U16 player, Grace O’Malley-Kumar, gave them victory against Culford School and a place in the day’s Final. In the Final they faced Suffolk’s Saffron Walden High School where a fine individual effort from Saskia Murphy brought the Essex girls victory and a place in the Regional Finals. They now progress to the Regional Finals in November having played eight matches without a defeat and without conceding a single goal.
Mrs Jo Fryer-Green, the Bancroft’s Coach, was fulsome in her praise for this team, “I have rarely seen a better team performance from a Bancroft’s team than at the Essex Championships. The girls were on tour together during the summer holidays and the experience clearly bonded them and taught them a lot about the importance of teamwork. They are now looking forward to and training hard for the Regional Finals later this term.”
