Aldwickbury School IAPS Fencing Champions

Aldwickbury are IAPS Fencing Champions

19th May 2016 — Last weekend our fencing team of boys from Year 5 – 8 headed down to Millfield School to compete in the IAPS Fencing Championships. One of the most notable things to those watching was the support the boys gave each other throughout the weekend. They all faced tough mental and physical challenges, but they rallied round each other without any prompting, giving words of comfort or encouragement where required, commending and celebrating wins and helping each other get through losses. This went across the board from the youngest through to the eldest. They were not separate year groups but a totally coherent group. Their sense of humour stood out. They worked hard, but they enjoyed themselves too and their personalities shined through.

The boys won the team competition out of 46 schools with 66 points to Millfields 65! Special congratulations go to the senior boys in the U14 Sabre (Ben Reed 2nd, Thomas Raut 3rd and Lucas Faustino Johnson 5th). Also to Jacob Barr for his silver medal in the U11 Foil competition.

Fencing is a relatively new sport to Aldwickbury and we have to thank Paul Davis and his team of coaches for the tuition and support they have given the boys over the last few years as well as the school staff and the boys' parents.

Thank you also to Millfield School for the fantastic event and their generous hospitality.

Finally well done to the Aldwickbury boys not only for winning in style but for the way they played the game.
