8th July 2019 — Winterfold School in Chaddesley Corbett was alive with the sound of music at the end of the summer term, with the launch of its very own radio station.
Ed James from Heart FM took time out from his busy broadcasting schedule to help the pupils with their first podcast which was also broadcast into the school playground, where the music loving youngsters were listening and dancing below.
After the official ribbon cutting ceremony and champagne toast, four talented Year 7 pupils interviewed Ed, prompting interesting and fun answers which engaged the audience.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, with the children dancing to everything from She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult, David Bowie's Heroes to Can't Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake, culminating with a giant conga around the playground.
Head of Music, Jerry Price said "We're so excited about the future of Radio Winterfold. We plan to stream live very soon to allow the children to develop amazing broadcast skills for the modern world."
Commenting on the afternoon, Ed James said “What an awesome idea for the kids - you could see how much they loved it too. Today, I met some of the broadcasters of the future! Radio, in my opinion, is the best medium there is and will teach them so much, from public speaking, listening, writing, news gathering to creativity. I wish I’d had something like this when I was at school!”
