21st June 2021 — A teacher at Francis Holland School Sloane Square cycled from home in Lewes to London to kick off the school's 'Walk or Cycle to School Week'.
At 4.00am on Monday 21st June, English Teacher Mr Galloway set off on a heroic 80km cycle ride from East Sussex to London.
It was part of an initiative set up by Head of Sustainability Mr McDonald-Brown to encourage the girls and staff to be mindful of the environmental impact of their journeys to and from school and to incorporate more fresh air and exercise into their daily routine.
Resisting the temptation of the snooze button at 3.25am, Mr Galloway began his long journey in darkness.
The route did not come without its obstacles, including a couple of gruelling hills, some quintessentially British weather and a rather stubborn herd of cows!
A number of teachers arranged to accompany Mr Galloway on his last half mile, meeting him at Battersea Park for the final leg into school.
On arrival at Graham Terrace, Mr Galloway was greeted by some very happy Year 7 pupils, a joyous balloon arch, and a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs on toast.
