21st February 2020 — Junior School pupils at Queen’s College have been rewarded for their work to improve the environment. Members of the Eco Team have received a certificate for earning the Eco-Schools Silver Award.
The children have raised money for their own outdoor classroom made of willow, which they have designed and then planted with the support the Queen’s Parents’ Association (QPA) and the Estates team.
They have ensured that teachers and pupils are aware of their action plan, which includes linking the curriculum to the Eco-schools topics in at least ten areas, and have regular meetings run by their elected chairperson.
The pupils strive to encourage environmental awareness in all areas of school life, including writing letters and persuading those in authority around them - particularly in the food industry - to make decisions which can support our environment.
Mrs Tracey Khodabandehloo, Junior School Headmistress, said: “We are so proud of all of the ideas, dedication and enthusiasm from the children and they, in turn, would like to thank everyone involved for their support, particularly the QPA and the Estates Team.”
