3rd March 2020 — The Royal Junior School is thrilled to have been awarded its Bronze Eco Award just six months after signing up to the Eco Schools UK Award scheme.

Over the last six months, everyone at the school has been working very hard towards achieving this award, including the establishment of a brand new Eco Committee, representing each year group, and including a parent and staff. Each year group has an Eco Monitor, who are responsible for spreading the word throughout the school and weekly environmental tips are added to the school’s Eco Board.

A yearly Environmental Review was recently carried out and the school now has an Action Plan influenced by the results and the Eco Committee has taken on responsibility for organising actions, timescales, monitoring and evaluating. So far this term the Junior School has had a ‘House Food Waste Eco Competition’ and a 'Great Eco-friendly Book Exchange'. Daycare and Nursery children in Little Sailors have a crisp/biscuit/pet food pouch recycling initiative and the rest of the school are collecting batteries, paper and pens for various recycling schemes. There are more environmentally friendly ideas to come as the Junior School now works towards the Silver Award.
