12th May 2020 — Moulsford Prep pupil Oscar Newton decided to do something to support the people in his local village who are in need. Each morning he has presented himself to the village shop at 9 o’clock on his bike and delivered up to 45 newspapers a day to people in the village who are 'staying at home'. Not only has he delivered papers but he has also run errands for them and picked up shopping. He has delivered over 550 papers already.

Oscar has been balancing school work with his community work and is keeping up with lessons by catching up in his break times. The manager of the village shop wrote to Moulsford Headmaster, Mr Beardmore-Gray to say: “Oscar is a great credit to himself, his family and the school. His reliability, thoughtfulness and ability to think on his feet is very impressive for his age and he has handled all the issues associated with delivery admirably.”

Meanwhile, four Year 8 boys have been busy helping the NHS and the community over the last few weeks. Justin Sheriff and Wyatt Ip spent the Easter holiday making NHS masks on their 3D printers at home. Justin got involved through the volunteering scheme 3D Crowd with support from Head of DT Miss Roberts, and has now made ten of the masks and frame pieces at home. And Toby Shemilt in Year 8 has also been helping the NHS effort. Toby’s mother has a business which usually makes bespoke rowing blazers, but she has now set up an initiative to make hospital scrubs for doctors and nurses. Toby has helped build a device at home to help her cut and measure the fabric before sending it out to volunteer sewers.
