12th February 2021 — Three teachers from Gresham’s School, Holt, have completed their challenge of running 5km every day throughout the month of January for charity.
Chris Cox, Julie Flower and Tom Burnett have collectively run a total of 667km as part of the school’s ongoing fundraising campaign for their Charity of the Year, The Treehouse.
The Treehouse is a local charity situated in Holt that aims to help vulnerable children and adults within the community.
They operate a zero-waste eco-friendly cafe, a community fridge for vulnerable families and organise various workshops for children.
Over the last weekend, Mr Cox completed a double half marathon and Mr Burnett finished with a 25km run on the 31st.
So far, they have raised a brilliant total of £765.
Tom Burnett, Gresham’s Head of PE, who leads the Charity Committee said: "We’re trying to think of different activities to enable us to continue raising money for The Treehouse throughout the year.
"Running a minimum of 5km everyday was certainly a challenge and there were some tired legs towards the end of the month, but we had aimed to raise one pound for every kilometre we covered which motivated us to keep going.
"We’ve been fundraising since the beginning of the School Year and have so far raised around £3,500 through Christmas Jumper Day, the Christmas Tree Festival and our Gresham’s Girls and Guys singles."
The money raised by the school will go towards a low wheelchair-accessible treehouse as well as a sensory garden where the treehouse will be situated.
In October, as part of the Gresham’s Services programme, some of the Senior school students volunteered with The Treehouse to help them create a new community garden.
