13th May 2019 — On Friday 10th May, pupils from Great Ballard visited the residents at Claremont Lodge Nursing Home. The choir sang beautifully with lovely big smiles on their faces clearly enjoying the performance. Songs included work from their repertoire for future concerts such as 'Together As One' and 'Voice For Peace'. They also led the guests in some communal singing. Popular hymns such as 'Be Still For the Presence of the Lord', 'Make Me A channel of Your Peace', and 'He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands' were all sung with enthusiasm from both sides of the room and it was wonderful to see the spirits of the residents lifted through the music.
In addition, there were three very impressive and confident solo performances from Eva, Issy, and Milly on the clarinet. Following a very special request from Peggy, we then all enjoyed an amazing solo Italian performance from Mr Larley.
After the concert the children had an opportunity to chat and introduce themselves to the residents, which could have been a little daunting for them, however Zoe led the choir and made the first move to have a lovely conversation with Grace and Peggy. Once the ice was broken the rest of the children followed suit, confidently introducing themselves and chatting to residents, getting them to play games.
It really was quite magical to see how our delightful children were, both with their exceptional singing and also showing kindness and considerate behaviour. The special occasion was enjoyed by all generations and feedback from all the residents included “ what smart and well-presented children”, “beautiful singing” and “the children are a credit to your school for their excellent behaviour”.
One of the residents, Anne, who sadly can’t speak as she’s had a stroke was really moved by the performance, her face lit up and her whole body moved in time to the music.
Little Ballard Nursery will be next to visit with their regular Early Years intergenerational trips.
