12th May 2020 — Answering a call to action to help provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for care workers treating patients with Coronavirus (COVID-19) in local hospitals, Fiona Davies, a Teaching Assistant at Davenies, put an otherwise unused laminator to good use.

In a short while, Mrs Davies laminated 4,000 laminating pouches to be used as single-use face shields by front line NHS staff at Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals, and is now aiming for 5,000! This phenomenal endeavour would not have been possible without the support of parents and friends of the Davenies community who have donated laminating pouches to the efforts of Mrs Davies, who has “been overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity!”

Headmaster of Davenies, Carl Rycroft comments: "We are all extremely proud of Fiona’s initiative and the example she has set our boys. At Davenies, we actively encourage the boys to adopt a strong sense of service and Fiona’s willingness to help others during such a challenging situation exemplifies this in spades. I was thrilled when she asked if she could borrow the laminator from school and cannot think of a better way to put such resources to good use during these unprecedented circumstances.”
