29th January 2021 — In common with many other boarding schools in the UK, Leweston has a small number of international boarders still on the school campus.
Despite there being fewer pupils on site than usual, staff have ensured that life at Leweston is still engaging and fun for those in boarding, continuing to instil the sense of community at school.
Alongside the students' full teaching timetable, boarding staff have organised various activities for evenings and weekends.
Boarders have already enjoyed badminton and yoga sessions during the evenings.
The first weekend of the Spring Term's activities included a film night, appreciating their beautiful Dorset surrounding on a country walk, a Murder Mystery Evening (where pupils got to dress up and take part in a ‘Who done it’ scenario), and cookery.
This weekend’s food theme was Asian cuisine with pupils cooking Sushi, Teriyaki Chicken and Japanese cheesecake.
Last weekend was again filled with plenty of activity opportunities including Sports Hall games, card and board games and Craft and Cookery Clubs.
GAP Assistant, Miss Sing, hosts Cookery Club every Sunday with a different theme from around the world each week.
This week the theme was South American cuisine and the boarders enjoyed cooking Aji de Gallina (Peruvian chicken stew), alfajores (a traditional confection found in Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, and Southern Brazil), and empanadas (a type of baked or fried turnover consisting of pastry and filling).
