23rd December 2020 — The school had already supported the Redbridge Mutual Aid Foodbank by donating its collection from the Harvest festival earlier this term. Visiting the Foodbank had left such an impression on Bancroft’s Year 6 Charity Ambassadors that they wanted to do more.
Each box of food was packaged with enough supplies to feed either a family of four people or a person living by themselves for a fortnight. Originally Bancroft’s Prep hoped that each of its twelve forms would collect enough food to make up three boxes: the final tally was triple this. The school managed to feed over sixty families and more than forty people living alone.
The efforts of the Charity Ambassadors drove the Appeal forward as they marketed it to their fellow pupils through flyers and promotional videos. A tally was kept on a colourful totaliser designed by the prep School Librarian, Mrs Kathryn Houghton.
Mrs Sarah Strong, Head of Charities and Community Links at Bancroft’s Prep said, “I am delighted that we have been able to help more of our local community than I could ever have anticipated. We have our wonderful parents to thank for their extremely generous donations and our Prep children for collaborating so sensibly in putting everything together. This was a small act of kindness on our part to give a lot of joy to those who will find Christmas particularly difficult this year.”
