9th October 2020 — Although, sadly, their South Africa Tour did not go ahead in March, the Moulsford Prep School community were extremely proud of all that was achieved in raising funds for their chosen tour charity Inspire Children and Youth. Over the preceding ten months, events including the Ridgeway Rhino cycle, Moulsfest and the Moulsford Mudder, the Sporting Lunch at the RAC, the Gala Dinner and individual fundraising by the boys meant that the original target of raising £15,000 was smashed. The school community raised a staggering £30,000, which was a tremendous feat and one that will do a huge amount to better the lives of those at Inspire.
Since the outbreak of Covid-19, South Africa’s challenges are as real as ever. Inspire has been supporting a great number of families through this time by delivering food parcels and providing health education. They have so far helped feed 257 households, or some 1542 people, on 25 farms, which is a clear indication of their commitment to help the families on Middelpos Farm and surrounding farms to stay healthy, protected, educated and fed, until such time that it is no longer needed.
James Springer, Director of Sport at Moulsford said, "We are extremely pleased that the money raised by the Moulsford community from the 2020 tour will fund four specific projects. The money will be spent on the renovation of a new kitchen, the repair and renovation of eight dilapidated rooms into three small houses, the repair of the water borehole and the hiring of a qualified teacher and the purchase of digital equipment to enable the children to learn. The funds that the Moulsford community has raised for Inspire are going to make a huge difference to the lives of many. The projects create a long-lasting legacy and strike a solid balance of infrastructure, daily needs and education. They should help to enable a way out of poverty for the current and future families at Middelpos Farm."
Although the 2020 Moulsford tour party was not able to go and meet these families and see the benefit directly for themselves, the charity have promised to update everyone on developments with information on how the projects are going. It is also very much in Moulsford's plans to visit Inspire on future tours and continue the legacy that the 2020 tour has begun.
Mr Springer continued, "A huge thank you to everyone that supported the fundraising events and especially to Nicola House and Emma Bowring for their tireless work throughout."
