3rd March 2020 — Youngsters from 12 schools from across Birmingham, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire gathered at Malvern St James Girls’ School on Saturday 29 February to discover who had won the coveted Best in Exhibition prize for the Junior Schools’ Art Exhibition.

Submissions came from pupils from The Elms Colwall, The Downs Malvern, The Blue Coat School, Hereford Cathedral School, Cheltenham College Prep, Berkhampstead School, Abberley Hall, King’s St Albans, Bromsgrove Prep School, Eastnor Primary School, Hatherop Castle and Malvern St James.

The Junior School’s Art Exhibition brings much excitement as students get a taste of what it’s like to have their work displayed for the public to view. It also gives students the opportunity to build their confidence by talking to guests and their peers about their work.

The exhibition featured over 100 works of art from students in Reception through to Year 8 using a range of techniques and mediums.

Over 300 guests attended the exhibition which culminated in the highly anticipated Prize Giving. Guest Judge, Claire Billingsley, and Malvern St James Headmistress Mrs Olivera Raraty were delighted to hand out the awards.

Best in Exhibition was awarded to Molly from The Downs, Malvern for her artwork named Pears.

In addition to the Art Exhibition guests had the opportunity to tour the Art Department at Malvern St James. Art classes are taught in fully equipped specialist studios where a broad-based curriculum is offered including painting and drawing, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, computer-aided design and photography.
