4th December 2018 — The Senior production is always a highlight of the Autumn Term, it's the culmination of a process that started with the audition process in June of the Summer Term. After five months of line learning, scene blocking, dance choreography, costume fitting, set building and vocal tuning, it was finally time to raise the curtain on My Fair Lady in November.
For two nights the cast received standing ovations for their energetic and humorous performances. The play tells the tale of Eliza, a flower seller in Covent Garden, who catches the attention of the noted expert in phonetics, Professor Henry Higgins, who embarks upon a challenge to fool polite society by passing off Eliza as a duchess. The cast pulled together to ensure that every scene was visually exciting and full of character. The individual performances were exceptional, with boys delivering classic songs such as I could have danced all night, I'm getting married in the morning and On the street where you live with confidence and clarity.
Special mention must go to Finn N as Colonel Pickering, Edward M as Alfred P Doolittle, Filip E as Mrs Higgins and George T as Freddy. However, even more credit must go to Sam M and Jack H who played Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins respectively.
The whole performance was further enhanced by the backstage crew, who worked seamlessly together to transform the set.
All boys who took part should be applauded for their efforts and there is no doubt that the Caldicott community will be humming tunes from the show for a long time to come.
Congratulations must also go to Head of Drama, Jo Duncan and Head of English, David Evans, for their hard work and determination to make this production one of the best. They succeeded.
