23rd October 2016 — Pupils from across the School who had volunteered themselves as Theatre Ambassadors were invited on a trip out to see this new production from Tutti Frutti, and to take part in a question and answer session with the performers who are bringing it to life.
Pupils were keen to quiz the stars of the show on their choreography, their musical abilities and how they overcome stage fright.
Underneath a Magical Moon is a Mike Kenny re-imagining of the classic tale of Peter Pan, updated for the twenty first century, and though, on the face of things, the play might be aimed at a younger audience, all attendees agreed that it had something for everyone.
Julia Jones, Head of English at St Olave’s, said: “We all agreed that it was an absolutely fantastic production, with some really clever use of props, lighting and music. The actors were terrific and it was a real treat for the pupils to be able to ask them some questions after their performance."
Below are some extracts from our Theatre Ambassadors' reviews:
"I thought that this play was extremely interactive and the actors were so in touch with the audience it really made you feel like you were another character in the story.."
"The whole performance was thoroughly entertaining and I thought that the musical element made it seem very homely and enjoyable for older children and adults as much as smaller children."
"Although the magical production was aimed at younger viewers, we all agreed it was a theatrical performance suitable for all ages. The crew had a really clever use of props, lighting and scenery that all played their parts to bring the show together."
Underneath a Magical Moon is performed twice a day, Tuesday to Saturday, at the York Theatre Royal until Saturday 22nd October.
