9th December 2019 — The glow of candles illuminated St Mary’s Priory Church for Monmouth School Girls’ Prep’s delightful Christingle Service.

Rutter’s Star Carol was sung by all pupils in candlelight during the traditional festive celebration led by the Chaplain, Reverend Clifford Swartz, on Friday 6th December.

Under the baton of Mr Mike Steer, the Years 5 and 6 choir impressed with All Bells in Paradise (Rutter) as did the Years 3 and 4 choir with The Christmas Jazz (Chappell).

Todd’s Lighting the Way was sang beautifully by the Chamber Choir, while Once in Royal David’s City (Gauntlett), Silent Night (Gruber, Mohr), Away in a Manger (Murray) and O Come All Ye Faithful (Wade) were congregational carols.

The Year 6 recitation, Let There be light, was very well performed by the Year 6 pupils who had written it.

Pupils Grace Lewis, Elin Phillips, Darcey Swannack, Noa Brockley, Daisy Smith, Charli Tranter, Victoria Rossiter and Matilda Snell all read lessons with maturity and confidence, along with the Principal, James Murphy-O’Connor and Mr Tom Arrand, Deputy Head at Monmouth School for Girls.

A collection at the service was made on behalf of St Mary’s Priory Church, The Children’s Society, and Music for Life.
