Hana Mizuta-Spencer, a former pupil of University College School in Hampstead, has been awarded a postgraduate scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama from September 2019. The scholarship grants Hana, who has just completed her degree in History at UCL, a substantial reduction in Guildhall fees and is in recognition of her outstanding playing at a recent series of auditions.
Hana is one of the finest musicians to have attended UCS in recent years. She made a highly distinguished contribution to ensemble music making as a Music Scholar, leading the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra as well as the UCS Piano Quartet that won the South East Schools’ Chamber Music Competition in 2015. In the 2016 Spring Concert, held in the Great Hall at UCS, she gave a dazzling performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Hana attended the Junior Royal Academy of Music from the age of eight, where she won the John McAslan Violin Prize and the Concerto completion in 2016. She is an experienced solo recitalist who has participated in the International Music Seminar at Prussia Cover and the Mozarteum Summer masterclass held in Salzburg. As violinist in the Mizuta Trio, Hana won the Dame Ruth Railton Chamber Music Prize in 2014 and 2016 and performed at Oxford’s Holywell Music Room and on BBC Radio 3.
The UCS community offers Hana warm congratulations on this outstanding achievement together with all best wishes in this exciting next phase of her musical career.
