Aquila Youth Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe

Aquila Youth Theatre presented a specially adapted version of Michael Morpurgo's The War of Jenkins' Ear at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August. Great audience response and reviews meant the week was hugely rewarding for the young cast.

12th September 2018 — Aquila Youth Theatre comprises of actors from Eagle House School, Cargilfield School, Wellington College and Reddam House and the show was written specially for the company.  The story of a boy who believes he is Jesus Christ is full of intensity and drama and the cast blended together brilliantly.

Throughout the week, as well as performing their own show, Aquila saw all sorts of shows and went out each day to promote their production on the Royal Mile.

The Fringe experience is second to none for young actors and the company aged from 11 to 15 took a huge amount away with them.  The discipline of getting in and out of the venue, performing in front of unknown audiences and learning from fellow performers cannot be underestimated.

Michael Morpurgo was very supportive throughout the production and it was a privilege to take a premier to the Fringe.  Aquila will perform the show one last time at The Whitty Theatre, Luckley House School, Wokingham on 22nd September with all proceeds going to the charity Autistica.

The company is already working on their production for 2019.

Eagle House (Coed 3-13) is a day and boarding school in Berkshire.
