22nd August 2019 — Thornton College students have achieved excellent results in their GCSEs, with record results in a number of subjects including Maths and Music.

• Almost 20% of results were at the highest possible grades 9 / 8 (legacy A*)

• Over 30% of all grades of all subjects at grades 9 – 7 (legacy A* - A)

• Over 50% of all grade results at 9 – 6 (legacy A* - B)

• Record results for a number of subjects including Maths and Music

• Success for our newer subjects with 100% 9 – 6 (legacy A* - B) in Drama and Citizenship and Politics.

Val Holmes, who has been Head Teacher at Thornton since last September, said:

"I am delighted to note record results in a number of subjects and particularly pleased that strengths in STEM subjects, such as Maths, are equalled by strengths in creative subjects like Music. As a non-selective school, which values the talents of each individual, we recognise that success comes in all shapes and sizes and that excellence across the board is a real possibility.

"In a week where we have seen application for politics at University rise by 10%, we are also pleased to note the superb results from Thornton’s very own politicians in the making and we are, of course, incredibly proud of all our girls."

Thornton College is a non-selective school which means that students do not have to pass an academic examination to enter. All students receive an exceptional education, irrespective of their academic ability when they join, ensuring that every child is stretched and challenged to perform at her best and, above all, achieves personal success.
