We are looking for an inspiring Head of Classics to lead our department through the next phase of its development. The post will suit a well-qualified graduate who has some substantial teaching experience, who is committed to delivering an exceptional learning experience for every pupil and is ready to lead a department in our high performing Catholic girls’ school.
Classics is a popular and successful subject at Woldingham. The department consists of a team of two highly committed Classicists who work with a focus on high level achievement and independent learning. All girls take Latin from Year 7, and it is a popular choice for at GCSE where it is offered both on and off-timetable. In the Sixth Form, we offer Latin and Classical Civilisation A Levels. In addition, we also offer Greek GCSE as an off-timetable subject to girls from Year 10 and the option of reintroducing Classical Greek A Level is being considered. A small number of girls go on to study Classics at university each year and we have a very good Oxbridge record. The department promotes innovative approaches to Teaching and Learning and there is a culture of sharing ideas, good practice and resources.
