This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious, experienced educational leader to join a dynamic team. The successful candidate will have the strategic vision, drive and energy to shape a contemporary, forward-thinking pastoral environment in which our pupils will thrive.
The role of Deputy Head (Pastoral) is a truly exciting opportunity for a candidate with the vision, experience and energy to shape a sector-leading approach to pastoral care. We have ambitious plans for the future of St John’s and exceptional pastoral care is at the centre of this. The School already has a well-deserved reputation for pastoral care but we do not rest on our laurels. Our aim is to build upon the strong foundations that are in place to create an environment in which the wellbeing of our pupils underpins everything we do and in which children can thrive in all aspects of their lives.
The successful candidate for this role will build and lead an experienced, talented pastoral team who carry out the vast majority of day-to-day pastoral care. This strong pastoral structure creates space and scope for the Deputy Head (Pastoral) to work at a strategic level on developing pastoral care and safeguarding practice in meaningful and imaginative ways. Inspiring trust, respect and enthusiasm from the pastoral team will be essential, as will having the intelligence and insight to understand and address the needs of pupils from ages 11 to 18.
The Deputy Head (Pastoral) will be a prominent, visible presence around the School and will forge strong relationships with pupils, parents, staff and external contacts such as feeder schools, the wider community and outside agents. Being able to articulate the pastoral vision and ethos of St John’s to all of these audiences will be an integral part of the role of the Deputy Head (Pastoral).
Across all aspects of life at St John’s, we are aiming to equip our pupils with the knowledge, flexibility, resilience and optimism they need to thrive in a complex world. We want to create a kind, inclusive, open-minded environment in which the contribution of every individual is valued and the Deputy Head (Pastoral) will play a crucial role in achieving this.
