GAP YEAR STUDENT/BOARDING ASSISTANT SEPTEMBER 2020 – JULY 2021
Dean Close St John’s is a thriving independent, co-educational day and boarding school situated in beautiful surroundings overlooking the castle in Chepstow. The School is divided into three sections; a Nursery (52 week care), Pre-Prep and Preparatory School, with children ranging from 3 months to 13 years.
St John’s promotes family values in a relaxed atmosphere and is well known for its music and performing arts and has a strong tradition of academic and sporting success. Facilities include a sports hall, an astro-turf, indoor pool and two off-site cricket pitches
The post runs for the academic year and the Gap Student would need to be in situ at least 2 or 3 days before the start of term and also be present at all staff Insets.
Accommodation is provided at Dean Close St John’s, Chepstow. Accommodation and food, during term time only, are provided without charge. The post requires a full commitment during term time.
The role of the Gap Student position is divided into two main areas;
The Boarding Houses
Responsible to the House Parents. Duties include assisting at breakfast, having meals with the pupils, and supervision duties in and around the House as part of a rota. Evening duties include a variety of activities and preparing snacks for the boarders as well as assisting with nightly laundry. Gap Students are required to attend weekend boarding activities on a rota basis.
Responsible to the Deputy Headmaster. Each Gap Student has a scheduled timetable, with a variety of tasks to attend to, though there is great flexibility within this.
