Scholarships, Bursaries & Fees
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH SCHOOL FEES
One of the Governors main objectives is to make a Westholme education financially available to as many as possible. To that end the tuition fees charged by Westholme are amongst the lowest in the country. However there are still some parents whose income prevents them considering Westholme for their children and for those situations the Governors make further provision through Governors' Bursaries.
These are normally available only to pupils entering Year 7. If parents' relevant income exceeds £40,000 per annum then it is most unlikely an application will be successful. The award is based on relevant family income tempered by performance at the Entrance Examination. Normally a Governors' Bursary award will not exceed 50% of fees. All applications must be supported by a financial statement completed on a proforma available from the Finance Office and coupled with documentary evidence of income. Other normal charges such as lunches and optional extras such as coach travel and indivdual music tuition, also need to be taken into consideration. Although offered on an annual basis, the expectation is that an award will run for the whole time a pupil is at Westholme, assuming little change in financial circumstances and satisfactory progress by the pupil concerned.
Each year bursaries are reassessed and parents will be required to submit an annual declaration of income and assets. A family may be eligable for bursaries for two or more children simultaneously.
If you want to apply for a bursary, you should tick the relevant box on the School Application Form. It needs to be emphasised that an application does not automatically guarantee an award. A successful application may involve a home visit to confirm domestic and financial circumstances. If you require any further information on bursaries, please do not hesitate to contact the Fees Secretary on: email@example.com
Westholme Scholarships are available at the Principal's discretion to award excellence and potential in a variety of areas.
Entry into the Senior School (Year 7)
Academic scholarships of up to 15% of termly fees are available for award to 11+ pupils each year following the results of the Entrance Examination, interview and reference from the relevant primary school and on other talents as identified by the Principal.
Music scholarships are available for award to 11+ pupils following a music audition. The maximum award for each scholarship is 10% of termly fees. These awards are conditional upon the continued commitment of the recipient to the musical life of the School.
Entry into the Sixth Form (Year 12)
A number of scholarships are available at Year 12 entry to recognise academic excellence, or excellence in Art & Design, Drama, Music or all round ability. The amount will be at the Principal's discretion.
High standards of conduct, assumption of responsibility and a strong work ethic will be expected from all students and the scholarship could be withdrawn if such conditions are not kept. Parents who, for financial reasons, would want to seek an award in excess of 15% should their daughter or son be awarded an academic scholarship may also apply for a bursary. Further details on scholarships are available for the Principal's Secretary:firstname.lastname@example.org
Westholme fees and charges are amongst the lowest in the country and we also demonstrate excellent value for money when comparing our fees/charges with GCSE and Advanced Level examination results.
Fees and charges are reviewed annually by the Board of Governors. Any annual surplus is returned to the School to finance both improvements and bursaries so that a Westholme education remains outstanding and is as widely accessible as possible.

Nursery & Infant School
We welcome babies from the age of 3 months and early registration is recommended due to high demand for places. We deal with applications in the order that they are received and formal offers will be sent 3 months prior to the date of admission, should a place be available. Families are encouraged to come and look around the Nursery; to arrange a visit please call Mrs Church, Nursery Manager on 01254 686596.
From the September following their third birthday children are admitted into Westholme Pre School. Informal assessments take place early in the Summer Term preceding admission so early registration is recommended.
Children are admitted into Reception in the September following their fourth birthday. Assessments take place at the end of the Spring Term preceding admission.
For further details or information, please contact the Registrar:

Providing there is space in the year group, children are admitted into Junior School following a successful assessment in the term preceding admission in conjunction with a positive reference from their current school. Children are assessed in Non-verbal Reasoning, Mathematics, English, Reading and Writing. The governors levy an assessment fee of £40.
Students are admitted into Year 7 in the September after their eleventh birthday subsequent to an Entrance Examination in the January preceding admission. The assessment consists of nationally standardised verbal, non-verbal and quantitative reasoning tests completed digitally on a PC and an English essay set by the school. Each child is also interviewed by a senior member of staff and we request a reference from their current school. The assessment, interview and reference are used to decide whether a place will be offered. The deadline for applications to join Year 7 in 2017 is Friday 9th December 2016.
Students seeking entry into Senior School at any other point will sit an Entrance Examination, attend an interview and submit copies of recent school reports. For all Senior School assessments the governors levy an assessment fee of £40.
All students taking up study at Westholme Sixth Form should have a minimum of 6 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English and Mathematics, with a minimum of a B grade in any subject being studied at A-level. Applicants will also be interviewed by the Principal and Head of Sixth Form.
Whilst we accept applications at any point preceding admission, a Scholarship Examination and Sixth Form Taster Day is held in the November preceding admission so we recommend applying before the end of October. Formal offers are sent in February so subject choices of applications made after this point may not always be able to be accommodated.
Students joining us from other schools will be invited to events throughout Year 11 to ensure that they feel fully settled and familiar with Westholme, staff and students before commencing their A-level studies.
Overseas Sixth Form Admissions
The School is currently a registered UK Border Agency sponsor (Tier 4) and accepts admissions from overseas students looking to enrol in the Sixth Form. Parents must inform the Registrar when returning a completed Registration Form or at any other time if their child requires sponsorship from the School in order to obtain a visa to study at Westholme.
