Wellington Prep Year 6 pupils' French flowed as they waited tables at the annual French cafe. The children enjoyed an afternoon of practicing their French and the parents and Grandparents soaked up the atmosphere being waited on hand and foot!
The wonderful French cafe took place in the Prep school. This has grown into an incredible event, with over 200 people enjoying the delights of the French cuisine on offer. The project is overseen by our fantastic French co-ordinator, Mrs Lawrenson, who brings the event together with the whole of Year 6. In the days leading up to the event, the children create menus, design posters, create bow ties and accessories to wear on the day - the work that goes into it is phenomenal. The costings and profit margins are carefully calculated in Maths lessons and the children are in four different teams to add a competitive edge.It is an "Apprentice" style challenge where the children look to produce the most profit, which then goes to school charities. Parents, grandparents and friends are invited to the hall after school and are encouraged by the children to select their cafe - Le cafe Rouge, Le cafe Bleu, Le cafe Orange and Le cafe Vert. And just in case you are wondering, the cafe made £452.61 profit which will benefit the school's two chosen charities.
