Terrington Hall Preparatory, a boarding and day school for pupils aged 3-13, stands within North Yorkshire’s Howardian Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty in sight of the cathedral city of York. Established in 1921 on the site of a Georgian rectory, the school continues to provide an education rooted in Christian traditions, promoting tolerance, integrity, manners and service whilst developing the potential of every child to the best that he or she can be.
Welcoming children of all abilities, the school enjoys a strong academic record. All its Year 8 leavers progress to the senior schools of their choice, with over one in four winning scholarships. One of a handful of truly independent prep schools in the area, Terrington prepares pupils for the school that best suits them. The school’s dedicated team of staff - many of whom are leaders in their fields – deliver a curriculum with not only academic excellence at its heart but also the provision of a life-enhancing broader education, one that develops potential wherever it lies, whether on the games field, in the music room, on the stage or in the children’s daily lives. Of particular note are the kayaking and mountaineering expeditions to the rivers and mountains of the Ardeche and the Alps in Years 7 and 8, the experiences of which are carried forward by the children for a lifetime. This is a flavour of our school. To find out more, do visit our website, www.terringtonhall.com. But to really experience what Terrington has to offer your child, and to see at first hand the glowing inner health of our stimulated, happy and outward-looking children, please do come and visit - you will be most warmly welcomed by headmaster Stephen Mulryne, and, of course, the pupils themselves.

Terrington Hall is non-selective and welcomes visits from prospective parents. This can be arranged at any time by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or contacting the school office on 01653 648227.
Whilst the main class entry points are Nursery/Reception and Year Three, pupils can be accepted into all year groups, places permitting, from Nursery through to Year 8 (3-13) and at any point in the school year.
The first step for parents considering the school is to visit us and meet with the headmaster Stephen Mulryne. You may then wish to arrange a taster day or morning for your child to experience life at Terrington Hall. Whilst no formal tests are administered the taster day is a valuable opportunity for informal assessments to be carried out by our teaching staff.
Should you wish to proceed, the next stage in the process is to fill in the registration form. Once this is returned with the non-refundable registration fee of £75, your child will be placed on the class list, or on a waiting list if the class list is full.
Two terms before your child is due to start, we will write to you to ask whether you wish to accept your child’s place on the class list and a deposit of £300 will be requested. Once the deposit has been received, your child’s place is confirmed. The deposit is refundable after the end of a child’s final term in the school, and is offset against their final extras bill. The deposit will not be returned if parents subsequently choose not to enter their son or daughter to Terrington Hall. Once acceptance of a place has been confirmed, a term’s notice is required for withdrawal.
Our admissions process is designed to help you establish whether Terrington Hall is the right school for your child. Your child is encouraged to visit the school at any stage in this process.
