28th January 2016 — Streatham & Clapham High School (SCHS) sixth-former Holly Jackson, a cellist with the prestigious National Youth Orchestra, played for pupils at the Prep. She entertained them with a repertoire which ranged from Baroque to Abba played upon a variety of instruments from the tiny sopranino to the large bass recorder. Holly also demonstrated her recorder collection. The pupils were particularly impressed when she played two recorders at the same time!
Holly has already achieved her Grade 8 with Distinction on both recorder and cello. She is one of only sixteen cellists selected by the NYO from throughout the UK. The NYO Tutors were impressed by Holly's playing and ensemble skills during her auditions. As an NYO Musician, Holly will become part of a tradition which has included many of Britain's greatest instrumentalists, conductors and composers.
During the Christmas break she played with the NYO at the Barbican. Geoff Brown of The Times (5.1.16) gave a glowing review of 'this dashing concert' which 'offered its own magic' by 'the world's greatest orchestra of teenagers.'
