St Gabriel's School Junior Department

St Gabriel's is a forward thinking independent day school with traditional values and excellent pastoral care. We offer girls a seamless journey from Nursery known as "Sandleford" through to Sixth Form, with our boys leaving us at 11 to go to their senior school. Our year-round Nursery provision offers full day care from 07.30 - 18.30 for babies and children aged 6 months and upwards. The Junior School is fully co-educational and provides a challenging and exciting learning environment with plenty of scope for outdoor learning within our 56 acre site. As children progress through the Junior School they move from being taught mainly by one teacher for all subjects to specialists in many subjects such as science, modern foreign languages, art and music. This transition enables them to move on to Senior School as a confident, resilient, articulate and resourceful young person.

About the school

The school enjoys enviable grounds and facilities, specialist teaching staff delivering a rich and challenging curriculum, outstanding pastoral care and a broad range of extra-curricular activities. We work closely with parents to ensure that all individual needs are being met or exceeded. iPads are provided to pupils as an important learning tool to help prepare them for life in the 21st century.

Admissions Process

From Year 1, St Gabriel’s is selective, but not fiercely so.  Whilst our examination results and university entrances are the bedrock of our existence, our strength lies in the provision of an excellent all-round education.   It is possible for St Gabriel’s pupils to enjoy success and gain the respect of others in a large number of ways.

Our pupils are not judged by the same narrow criterion of academic achievement. Confidence gained in one skill spreads to others so that our pupils grow to feel capable and successful.

Consequently, Junior Assessments and Senior School entrance examinations identify children of good average ability and above and places are offered to those who are able to thrive in our environment.
