Westonbirt Prep Turn Swimming Pool Purple For Sport Relief
Pupils at Westonbirt Prep school set themselves a huge challenge for this year’s Sport Relief. They aimed to take part in 50 sports in a 24 hour period to raise money for the cause with an intended target of £1,000 by Friday 23rd March.
23rd March 2018 — Pupils at Westonbirt Prep school set themselves a huge challenge for this year’s Sport Relief. They aimed to take part in 50 sports in a 24 hour period to raise money for the cause with an intended target of £1,000 by Friday 23rd March.
The Prep school near Tetbury has a sports packed curriculum and regularly takes part in inter-school matches from Year 3 onwards introducing a wide variety of sports to all pupils from a young age.
The bulk of the challenge was taken on by Year 6 students who attempted to complete 24 sports in 24 hours with the remainder of the school making up the other 26 sports across the course of the day last Friday. The week culminated in a whole school run to which the parents were also invited.
These ambitious challenges were largely planned and organised by the Year 6 Sports Captain team who worked alongside Headmaster, Mr. Sean Price and school sports coaches Mr Francis and Miss Bird to facilitate the event. During the day, pupils used the school swimming pool, which was dyed purple for the occasion, for synchronized swimming, water polo and water aerobics. The challenge was achieved across the school with enthusiasm and determination with the final figure raised set to be over £1,000.
On 2 December, Year 6 Westonbirt Prep golfing star, Isabella Bleaken, enjoyed an inspiring morning as part of the England Golf Ambassador team. The brilliant young ambassadors discussed how they plan to help grow the game in the future.
11th January 2018 — Isabella, who also plays the violin and piano and loves singing, decided to try golf after watching the sport on television and discovered she had a natural talent for hitting the ball. Isabella is now a passionate golfer and an ambassador for the Golf England Trust.

Year 4 went on a school trip to explore the Roman Baths and also managed to soak up the Christmas markets
6th December 2017 — On Thursday 23rd November, Year 4 went on a school trip to explore the Roman Bathhouse. Walking through the bustling streets of Bath whilst the Christmas Markets were in full swing, Christmas was in the air; with carol singers, stalls of chestnuts, sparkling Christmas decorations and a giant Christmas tree, the children could hardly contain their excitement!
Arriving at the Roman Baths, Year 4 enjoyed the opportunity to use head set commentaries whilst exploring the museum. On the tour, children saw the different baths and bathing areas, walked over the sacred spring and learnt facts about each of the artifacts and sculptures along the way. Year 4 even spoke to some Romans who taught us how to play Nine Men's Morris! Later on, the children had an interactive session where they handled Roman artifacts and explored replica Roman objects to understand their uses. It was a wonderful day and the children were a total credit – Well done Year 4!
Westonbirt Prep makes The Sunday Times list of ‘Top 100 Independent Prep Schools
Westonbirt Prep are celebrating after making the Sunday Times list of 'Top 100 Independent Prep Schools in England' at number 88 from over 1,000 prep schools in the country.
22nd November 2017 — The annual Parent Power listings rank schools in England according to achievement in their most recent examination results. Westonbirt Prep has consistently performed above the national expectations in SAT’s tests at Year 6. This year 94% of the cohort achieved above the national standard in Maths and 84% above in Reading.
Westonbirt Prep does not select pupils on academic achievement preferring instead to value and nurture its inclusive intake in small classes with expert teachers who deliver a broad curriculum including competitive sport, swimming, music, drama and art alongside a wide spectrum of academic subjects.
Leaving pupils mostly attend their first choice of secondary school and are often awarded scholarships on entry. Destinations include Westonbirt School, other local top independent schools and the Gloucestershire grammar schools. Westonbirt Prep has seen a rise in numbers over the last few years and has added additional classes to ensure the model of small numbers in each form remains throughout the school.
Westonbirt Prep pupil Thomas Hulme has today achieved a grade C in his Maths iGCSE at the age of 11.
24th August 2017 — Westonbirt Prep are celebrating today as a Year 6 pupil, Thomas Hulme achieved a C grade in Maths iGCSE at the age of 11 years.
Thomas who is an academic student and has secured a place at Pate’s Grammar from September is delighted with his result. Sean Price, Westonbirt Prep Headmaster says “Thomas worked hard for this fantastic achievement and it is all credit to him that he has obtained this remarkable result at the age of just 11. We are very proud of him and wish him continued success at Pate’s”.
Westonbirt inter-schools cross country proves runaway success
Twenty primary and prep schools and over 450 children competed in the inter-schools cross country race at Westonbirt School on 22nd February 2017.
1st March 2017 — Despite windy conditions, there was some great racing and a fabulous atmosphere as the children from Year 3 to Year 6 ran through the school’s beautiful parklands. Westonbirt Head Mrs Natasha Dangerfield said of the event: “We were thrilled to host another amazing cross country event this year. Despite the blustery conditions the runners participated with enthusiasm and great sporting spirit. We were delighted to welcome hundreds of pupils from prep and primary schools across the region to enjoy our beautiful school grounds.”

You can book into ‘Stay and Play’ sessions in the Nursery and ‘Taster Days’ in the Prep school before you officially start and these are great opportunities for your son or daughter to meet other pupils in the year group and really get a feel for a day at Westonbirt. New pupils are accepted every term so your child is unlikely to be the only new starter no matter when they join us.
