Perrott Hill is a thriving countryside preparatory school situated in beautiful grounds upon the Somerset-Dorset border. The phrase ‘time and space for a full education’ is at the very heart of all that happens at the school. We provide a unique family atmosphere in which all children can develop a sense of self belief and confidence. Against a background of traditional values, every single child is encouraged to achieve their very best, be it in the classroom, on the games field or throughout the wide variety of activities we have to offer.
About the school
Perrott Hill is a thriving country preparatory school situated in beautiful grounds amongst the rolling Somerset countryside. Class sizes are small - we have an average of twelve to a class in the Prep School, with two classes in most years, and we take great care to both encourage and stretch children based upon their individual needs and strengths. Perrott Hill combines extremely high standards of academic and pastoral care. In the last 3 years the 86 children leaving school at the end of year 8 have secured 41 awards to senior schools and all children were offered a place at the school of their choice. Scholarships have been awarded for academic, artistic, sporting, dramatic, musical, equine and all-round ability. The Montessori nursery and pre-prep are housed within the converted stable courtyard next to the main school buildings, which gives the younger children their own safe, secure environment whilst allowing them to take advantage of the grounds and facilities of the preparatory school. An extremely dedicated staff ensure that the highest standards of academic and pastoral care are provided for each and every pupil. Therefore, every child is given the opportunity to develop and thrive as an individual before they move on to life at their senior school.

The return of the Perrott Hill Children's Literary Festival

6th June 2018 — Two days, nearly 200 children – and a conga led by a storyteller with a ukulele… It can only be the return of the Perrott Hill Children’s Literary Festival at Perrott Hill Prep School near Crewkerne. The event, which took place during half term and was sponsored this year by Old Mill Accountants and Financial Planners, saw children attending from schools all over the South West, including Hinton St George, Merriott, Broadwindsor, Manor Park, Chilthorne Domer, Maiden Beech, Taunton School and Colyton Grammar School, to name a few. The children, ranging from Year 1 up to Year 8, enjoyed a range of inspirational workshops and masterclasses with award-winning authors, poets and storytellers including Ali Sparkes, Cliff McNish, Tamsin Cooke, Martin Maudsley, The Somerset Youth Theatre, The Poetry Slam, our Head of Art, Tabatha Palmer, and Little Toller Books.
“I loved the stories and music in the woods, which was really exciting,” said Jessica, who is in Year 1 at Broadwindsor Primary School, while her sister Rosie, in Year 4, added: “I loved every minute, especially making new friends.”
“My favourite part was art with Mrs Palmer and meeting Cliff McNish,” said Perrott Hill pupil Harry, who is in Year 5. “I bought all his books afterwards and I’m hoping to get through the whole Doomspell trilogy by the summer so I can write a review.”
“Once again, it was a pleasure to see so many happy and inspired children from a wide range of local schools, all coming together for this celebratory and fun festival,” says Lizzi Gardner, Director of Marketing at Perrott Hill. “One of the highlights for me was the impromptu conga around the Front Terrace during lunch, led by storyteller Martin Maudsley on his ukulele. That’s going to be hard to beat next year – the challenge is on!”
This week saw Perrott Hill Prep School in Somerset play host for the annual Year 6 Mock Trials, where six local primary schools battled it out in a courtroom presided over by a team from the Yeovil Magistrates' Court.
16th November 2017 — This week saw Perrott Hill Prep School in Somerset play host for the annual Year 6 Mock Trials, where six local primary schools – Perrott Hill, East Coker, Preston, Ash, Hambridge and Chilthorne Domer – battled it out in a courtroom presided over by a team of real-life magistrates from the Yeovil Magistrates’ Court. The defendant in the dock was the fictional Terry Shepherd, who was being accused of graffiting the door of a local business, with each school having to present a case for either the prosecution or the defence.
The overall winners were Ash Primary, with Perrott Hill coming a close second and East Coker in third. Adjudicating magistrate Mr Lindsay Wilson commended the level of confidence with which the children spoke, telling them ‘it takes real guts to stand up and speak in front of your peers, and I was really impressed by all of you.’ Grace Wakely from Ash Primary, who acted as 3rd witness, said: “I was so nervous beforehand but tried not to focus on the people watching. We are so shocked to have won, but very happy!” A special thank you to our Chairman Ms Mary Ellis and adjudicating magistrates Mrs Susanna Hanson and Mr Wilson. A great day was had by all.
