Moira House is an independent girl’s school founded in 1875. It is situated on high ground in Eastbourne with views over the sea and Downs. The Junior School has provision for 120 day girls starting at age 2 and junior boarders starting from the age of 9. Moira House Junior School will provide an excellent all-round education, which will encourage each individual pupil to attain her highest potential in a friendly, happy yet purposeful community. The children are encouraged to explore the huge range of educational opportunities available to them, to excel with realistic but challenging expectations and to discover individual strengths through an extensive programme of sporting, cultural and social activities.
We are fortunate to benefit from a wide range of facilities that include • Extensive grounds including a designated environmental studies outdoor classroom • Two very exciting play areas • An indoor swimming pool • A modern well equipped sports hall, playing fields and tennis courts • Designated music room and recording studio • A well resourced art room • An ICT suite in the heart of the school • A stage with theatre seating and professional lighting. Our School has a state of the art Pre-Prep department with a new open plan learning environment offering exciting free flow internal and external activity areas. The Pre-Prep enrols girls from the age of 4 through to 7 years of age and is an integral part of the whole Junior School. We offer a rich and varied extra-curricular programme which extends and enriches the children’s learning in many areas. The school has been particularly successful in national swimming competitions and the Chamber choir is often invited to sing at events within the community. The school believes that extending the learning also involves trips out of school and includes residential experiences for Years 4, 5 and 6. We operate a comprehensive bus service with flexible routes covering an approximate 20 mile radius, from as far as Brighton, Heathfield, Battle and Hastings. We also provide the option of extended care for the children from 8am - 6pm at no extra cost. This supports working parents in the knowledge that their children are well looked after for the whole day. The ‘After School Club’ is very popular and is run by two exceptional members of staff who make the afternoon activities fun and interesting for all ages.
