About the school
Welcome to Kent College, a boarding and day school, where every girl is treated as an individual and valued for her own unique strengths, talents and ambitions. Girls are encouraged to work hard and balance their academic studies with a full extra-curricular programme so they achieve their personal best in all areas of school life.
I strongly believe that ability is not fixed and that girls have the potential to grow and develop throughout their school life and beyond. It is the supportive and kind atmosphere of Kent College that gives our girls the courage and confidence to make mistakes and persevere; for no matter what your ability, effort is what ignites ability and turns it into accomplishment. We pride ourselves on understanding each girl, working with her and her family and tailoring her learning to her individual needs: we offer a truly bespoke education.
Our beautiful grounds inspire girls and staff alike, providing an environment to stretch and develop both physically and personally. Our Christian foundation focuses all we do to foster a spirit of kindness and community where we embrace those of all faiths and none.
An education at Kent College starts as we learn about the person your daughter is now and ends when she leaves us as the young woman she aspires to be. The girls fully embrace life at Kent College, with opportunities to travel and engage with the global community. The girls emerge with the confidence and skills to make a difference to the world around them.
Above all, Kent College is a vibrant and welcoming community, where individuals are valued for who they are and the sound of laughter reverberates throughout the School with an adventure to be had every day.
Headmistress' Welcome, Ms Lodrick.
- Day Fees: £6400 to £6900/term
- Boarding Fees: £8000/term
Scholarships, Bursaries & Fees
Scholarships are available in the following categories: Academic; Practical (Art; Drama; Music; Sport).
Awards provide a reduction of the day fees, normally 10% per scholarship. The fee reduction may be further enhanced by a bursary if parents can demonstrate, through a means-testing procedure, that they would not otherwise be able to send their daughter to Kent College because of limited financial means. If you wish to make a bursary application, we ask you to contact the bursary.
On rare occasions, the Headmistress may offer higher value scholarships (up to 50%) for those with exceptional ability.
Girls may apply for an Academic Scholarship and/or up to two Practical Scholarships. It is possible for girls to receive multiple scholarships.
If a scholarship is awarded, but the parents wish to forego all or part of the financial concession in favour of other candidates of narrower means, then the status and title of ‘Scholar’ will still be retained by their daughter.
An award will normally be held for the full duration of a girl’s time at Kent College, provided that performance and conduct remain satisfactory in the view of the Headmistress. A clear process of scholar support and monitoring is administered by the teacher with responsibility for supporting scholars, known as the Margaret James Tutor, and details will be sent to parents upon the awarding of a scholarship.
Applications must be received by the relevant date published on the Kent College website and given at the end of this booklet. Applicants are expected to present themselves for assessment on the published assessment date.
Scholarships will only be awarded if candidates of sufficient merit present themselves.
External candidates awarded Practical Scholarship Awards are still required to meet Kent College’s academic entry requirements.

Main intakes are at 11+ (Year 7), 13+ (Year 9) and 16+ (Lower Sixth Form). We also accept applications from students for entry into other year groups subject to places being available.
Entry at 11+
The majority of our students enter the school in Year 7 (the first year of secondary education) at age 11-12. All UK-based applicants are expected to attend the 11+ Entrance Day in November to sit the school's own entrance examinations in English and mathematics (each paper is 45 minutes long).
Entry at 13+
At age 13-14, students enter Year 9 (the third year of secondary school) after taking examinations in English, mathematics, verbal reasoning, Science and Modern Foreign Languages. The MFL paper has four sections and each candidate is expected to answer just two sections depending on the subjects she is currently studying eg French, German, Spanish, Latin. (All examinations are 1 hour long, except for the MFL paper which will be 1 hour 30 minutes long - 45 minutes per section).
Entry to the Sixth Form
Entry to study A level courses is conditional on the student gaining at least six passes at grade C or above in GCSE or equivalent examinations. Students should be aiming for A or B grades in the subjects they wish to study at A level (if studied at GCSE). An offer of a place is also based on an interview (unless the applicant is based overseas), current school reports and a reference from the applicant's current school. Students whose first language is not English are also required to sit entrance tests. Click here for more information on Admissions for Overseas Students.
