Brighton Girls GDST

Brighton Girls couldn’t be anywhere other than at the heart of vibrant, open, forward-facing Brighton. We’re a dynamic, creative, friendly school where girls are confident, passionate and kind – not only ambitious for themselves, but for society. We are very proud of the ways in which Brighton Girls fosters a stimulating and dynamic community within which girls aged 3 -18 discover and develop their individual gifts and talents.

As a founder of the Girls’ Day School Trust, we’ve championed girls’ education since it was in its infancy. We understand what makes girls tick and how to help them become all they can be. We do this by focusing on the joy of learning and on instilling curiosity, adventure and independence. All in a girls-only environment that’s reassuring yet always stimulating, giving students the confidence and motivation to shine.

About the school

At Brighton Girls, we strive to create an environment where students:

  • Are fully supported in every endeavour

  • Feel free to shine academically and socially

  • Are able to discover and develop their own character, strengths and interests, yet also value collective endeavour

  • Have a strong sense of community and the responsibilities and opportunities this involves

  • Have the confidence to go beyond what they think they can achieve

  • Without exception, feel they are nurtured and belong

  • Will look back at their school years with happiness

  • Learn to be resilient and positive

  • Leave school fully equipped to succeed in life

Our vision is of generations of Brighton Girls with the ability to lead and make a real difference in the world and who are both bold and kind.

The very best way to decide if Brighton Girls is the best choice for your family is for you all to come and visit us. We offer a variety of opportunities for you to do this, both formally and informally and we aim to make the whole process as simple and as stress-free as possible. Admissions Process

To start the admissions process simply follow these easy steps. For additional information email admissions@brightongirls.gdst.net.

Year 7 have a dedicated block of classrooms lending a cohesive feel to the year group. As well as overseeing Year 7 admissions our Head of Transition, Ms Nicci Plank visits all the girls in their own school before they start with us.

Our Year 7, 11+ entry, is our main intake to the Senior School. Set in the heart of Brighton we are very much a reflection of Brighton itself – creative, eclectic and nurturing. Our girls come from all over Brighton and Sussex as well as our Prep School in Hove.

Step 1 – Visit us
The very best way to decide if Brighton Girls is the best choice for your family is for you all to come and visit us. Step 2 – Apply Our
Application Form is the first formal stage of our admissions process. Girls will then be invited to our taster events throughout the year. These taster events provide excellent opportunities for girls to get to know us and to experience daily life here. In order to take part in our entrance examinations we must have a completed Application Form plus a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate and passport.

Step 3 – Assessment & scholarships

We have a two stage entry process. For girls in Year 6 applying our assessment day for Year 7 takes place in the January prior to entry. They’ll be assessed in maths, English, non-verbal and verbal reasoning, and will meet with a member of our teaching staff. We also have an Early Doors assessment day for girls in Year 5.

All candidates are automatically assessed for an academic scholarship through the papers they sit on assessment day. Other scholarships and bursaries are available, which you can find on our scholarships page on the website.

Step 4 – Offers & welcome

Places for Year 7 are offered in early February following assessments. Following acceptance of a place you will be sent a welcome pack and an invitation to our Welcome Day held in June. Early Doors offers will be made in April and girls invited to join our Taster Day Programme. Parents are also invited to our Welcome Day in June and a Welcome Evening in early September when joining Year 7. All our Year 7 girls are given a buddy from Year 8 to help them settle in.
