Inspiring Teachers, Inspiring Children

Babington House School is an independent co-educational day school from 3 to 18 years, situated in a beautiful group of buildings on Grange Drive in Chislehurst, near Bromley. The boys and girls receive first class education in a supportive and academic environment with no more than 20 children in a class.

Teachers inspire pupils from the Sixth Form right down to the Nursery and achieve excellent results. Over the past three years, A-Level pupils have achieved 80% A* to B grades and Babington’s Early Years provision has been top of the Bromley Borough league tables.

The school has just over 420 pupils. Babington is an academic school but also believes in developing the whole child, encouraging pupils to become confident, enabled young people. Teachers get to know their pupils well and lasting friendship are formed amongst the children, creating a strong school community.

At Babington House, “pupils throughout the school display excellent attitudes to learning that are evident in all that they do, and an atmosphere of happy endeavour permeates school life”, independent school inspectors find (2016).

“Pupils are confident, independent learners and thinkers with high personal values and an awareness of their responsibilities in the outside world, fully reflecting the school’s aims.  They contribute fully to the happy, relaxed and close-knit community.”

About the school

Babington House School is an independent day school in Chislehurst, Kent for boys and girls aged 3 to18 years. We select children on their academic ability and potential, as well as personal qualities. Once at Babington, they are expected to surpass their own expectations and we achieve excellent results.

Being a small school has BIG advantages. Babington House has high standards of behaviour, dress and conduct, benefiting from small class sizes of no more than 20 pupils. We are committed to outstanding sport, music, drama, and the arts and offer a vast array of extra-curricular opportunities.

Over the past 3 years Babington Sixth Form pupils have achieved 80% A* to B grades at A Level. In 2018 Babington was ranked top small independent school in England for A Level results with 68% A* and A grades. At GCSE in 2020, 75% of pupils achieved 9-7 grades and 100% were awarded 5 GCSE's graded 9-5 including English and Maths.

As well as excellent results in the Senior School and Sixth Form, Babington has a thriving Preparatory School for boys and girls from 4 to 11 years old and the Nursery is top of the Bromley league table for Early Years Education for the third year running.

“Our commitment to providing an academic and well-rounded education with small class sizes, tailored to the needs of our pupils is really paying off.  Our pupils and parents are happy and we are achieving impressive results at GCSE and A Level.” , says Tim Lello, Headmaster.

Admissions Process

We are happy to admit young people to the School at any time during the academic year, provided we have space and they fulfil our entry criteria.  Our starting point is the recognition that every child is unique and should be treated as an individual. Like you we want your child to be happy and successful.  We select on academic ability and potential, as well as personal qualities.

We try to make the admissions experience as friendly as we can so that we, and you as parents, can work out whether your son or daughter would thrive here.  We talk to your child and read their most recent school report, we also discuss the application with you.  Our academic tests are usually carried out during a 'taster' day which is booked in at a time to suit your convenience.

The Year 7 Entrance Examination takes place in early January and involves Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Maths and English tests. These tests assess a pupil's academic ability and potential.
