The Prep School is an exciting place to grow and learn at the start of the fourteen years that your daughter will spend at St Albans High School. With our 18 acres of field and woodland, every child has the opportunity to get muddy in the outdoors, to play, develop their passion for learning and have fun. Visitors are struck by the confidence of our girls as they work alongside friends in the classroom, grappling with difficult maths problems or writing and sharing stories with each other. We are a caring community where every child is valued and understood. We meet as a community daily when our girls sing lustily and reflect on abiding values before they embark upon the day’s learning adventure. Whether coding, experimenting in science, performing a French play or creating an Anglo Saxon village, our girls embrace their learning and you will be impressed by their infectious enthusiasm.
I invite you to come and see for yourself what the Prep has to offer and look forward to welcoming you.
100 pupils celebrate marathon milestone at St Albans High School Prep
More than 100 girls at St Albans High School Prep are celebrating having run the equivalent distance of a full a marathon over the course of the last term.
21st November 2017 — Since the start of the summer term, girls from Years 1 to 6 have been notching up the miles, running over 1100 metres before school around the wooded cross country course which stretches around the school’s grounds in leafy Hertfordshire.
Students chose how often they want to run, with some girls even completing the route twice in the morning. They received a sticker each time they completed 1100 miles, and once they had gained 39 stickers could celebrate reaching the marathon milestone – over 42,000 metres in total.
Head of the Prep School, Judy Rowe, explains why the marathon challenge has benefitted the students: "The exercise makes them more alert and ready to learn and is excellent for their fitness. The girls are coming in before school to run as well as in their spare time, which shows just how enthusiastic and determined they are. I’m delighted that the marathon challenge has given so many girls the running bug."

We understand how young your child is when she meets us for 4+ testing, and we’re sensitive to her needs. We work with her in a comfortable environment surrounded by the kinds of activities and toys that she may have grown accustomed to in a nursery class. By talking with your daughter, sharing activities and stories and working with her on one-to-one tasks, we can gain an insight into whether the Prep would be a good fit for her. Your daughter will spend a little over an hour with us and will feel relaxed and at ease with our welcoming staff.
The entry tests take place in January of the academic year that your child wishes to start school. If you’d like to know more or to arrange a visit to the school with your daughter, please contact the Registrar, Rosemary Colman on 01727 792509.
