About the school
At Kent College we believe that happiness combined with exploratory play are fundamental factors in a child’s success, and this shapes our approach to learning and in the development of confident, communicative and intellectually curious girls. We provide a happy learning environment for our girls and create a bespoke education, providing her with excellent teaching and resources, enrichment opportunities and dedicated support so that we can respond to her changing needs in consultation with her parents. Our highly trained and caring teachers know how to balance work with play, and understand that these two activities complement each other. We teach girls subjects on the national curriculum and more, but we also want them to participate in a healthy variety of sports, clubs and extra-curricular activities.
A Whole School Approach
We cater for girls rising 3 to 11 years and benefit tremendously from being part of a wider school through to 18. Many of the superb resources of the Senior School are at our disposal which means we can offer our girls a broad and balanced curriculum with a huge variety of extra-curricular activities. From your daughter's first days we are keen to ensure that our girls and their families become part of the KC community and feel a real sense of belonging to the school as a whole.
Girls can enter the Nursery class in the term of their third birthday. Attendance is flexible in the Nursery class as the girls get used to their new environment and settle in. During the year they are expected to increase the number of sessions they attend so that by the time they enter the Reception class they are attending full time. Pupils join the Reception class in the September after their fourth birthday.
For entry into Nursery, Reception and Years 1 and 2, places are awarded according to availability and there are no entrance tests. The School operates a registrations’ list and we recommend that parents register their daughter in advance to ensure a place is available.
Girls wishing to join Years 3-6 are required to attend a Taster Day and, during their visit, sit tests in English and mathematics. Places are then offered on the basis of performance in these tests. Prospective boarders are invited for a Taster Day and overnight stay to give them a feel for the boarding community.
We hold whole school Open Mornings in October, March and April and Early Years Open Mornings in January and May where prospective girls and their parents are invited to come and see the school and to meet the pupils and staff. You can book a place online for an upcoming Open Morning via our website. www.kent-college.co.uk
In addition, the Head is very happy to see parents on an individual basis when you can have a look around the school, meet the staff and pupils, and discuss your daughter's education.
