About The Hawthorns School

In a happy, family atmosphere, each child is given each opportunity to realise their potential through academic achievement and by engaging in an exceptional breadth of activities which build confidence and develop character. We wish to instil in each child a lifelong love of learning and encourage them to be involved in the world that they live in.

A Hawthorns education offers challenge and sets high expectations to shape our pupils into engaged and articulate contributors. The majority of children go on to academically selective senior schools, with over 40% each year achieving scholarships.

Immersed in a life that revolves around the School values of kindness, respect, courage, honesty and resilience, Hawthorns children are loved, feel secure and learn from their mistakes, endeavours and successes. Laughter and energy abound as pupils and staff make the most of school life.

We encourage parents to visit the School to get a real flavour of life at The Hawthorns. Open Mornings are held each half term with our senior pupils showing prospective parents their School. Our children are our best ambassadors and we encourage parents to ask them questions, or speak to the teachers, during the morning. Individual visits take place weekly with tours of the School carried out by our Registrar, Debbie Kingerlee and an opportunity to meet the Headmaster, Adrian Floyd.

To arrange a visit or enquire about our next Open Morning please call Debbie, on 01883 743048 or email

Admissions Process

No formal assessment is necessary for children entering the Rainbow & Ark Nurseries and Reception, although informal observations will be made during the Taster Session. Children joining during the Reception Year and above will be invited to spend some time at the School in their year group, during the course of which some assessment work is carried out. A report will be requested from their current school where applicable.

Children will be invited to a "Induction Visit" immediately prior to joining. This will give them an opportunity to meet their teacher and classmates and familiarise themselves with the School’s layout. On the first day of term, where appropriate, a "buddy" will be asked to look after a new pupil.
