About Newland House School
At Newland House we believe in equal opportunities for all the children in the school, irrespective of social background, culture, race, gender or ability. The School aims is to provide a curriculum that is broad and balanced and covers the academic, artistic and physical elements so crucial for the development of the complete child. We are determined to create high standards of learning for all the children in a caring and supportive environment. We hope to promote enquiring minds and build on pupils’ strengths, interests and experiences so that every pupil is valued for the talents and beliefs he or she brings to the school.
Newland House School provides a happy, friendly environment that enables children to thrive. They enjoy coming to school and value that sense of belonging, which binds a strong, caring community. Each pupil, though very much an individual, learns to take responsibility for helping others. All are encouraged to involve themselves fully in the many and varied activities on offer. We are enormously proud of their achievements in so many different areas but one of the greatest pleasures is to see how much they value and support each other’s successes. A successful education involves a partnership between pupil, parents and teachers and we consider the links between home and school to be of crucial importance.
The main points of admission to the school are: 4+ into the Pre-Prep Department (approximately 40 children in two classes, moving to 60 children across three classes from 2016). Entry at this point is non-selective and is on a first come first served basis. We operate a waiting list and it is therefore advisable to register as early as possible. 7+ entry into Year 3 of the Prep Department (approximately 20 children), although this will be phased out after the 2018 entry. Assessments take place in January for entry into the school the following September. All assessments are conducted in small groups and children seem to enjoy the experience. Offers will made the week following the assessments and parents will be given a two week window in which to accept the offer. Admission at other ages is dependent upon the availability of places. Children seeking an occasional vacancy will be interviewed and assessed when appropriate.
Small group tours of the Prep Department are held on a monthly basis throughout the term and are led by the Headmaster, Deputy Headmaster and Director of Studies. Visits to the Pre-Prep Department are conducted by the Head of Pre-Prep on most Monday and Wednesday mornings throughout the term and are by individual appointment.
