About Holy Cross Preparatory School

The challenging curriculum is fully supported by excellent facilities and resources and Holy Cross Prep pupils benefit from specialist teaching in ICT, French, music, art, drama and PE. In 2009, the School opened its spectacular new performing arts and sports hall as well as its state of the art music suite. The School does not only strive for and achieve academic success; the pupils regularly win sports matches and tournaments - they were crowned IAPS national netball champions in 2011 - and most pupils play at least one musical instrument.Set in eight acres of breathtaking grounds, the school is located on a site with a fascinating history and since the time of Edward the Confessor it has been tenanted and owned by many well-known people. Within the school grounds are the remains of Coombe Conduit, built in 1515 by Cardinal Wolsey to carry water to nearby Hampton Court Palace during the reign of Henry VIII. The author, John Galsworthy, spent his childhood here and described Coombe Ridge House – the main part of our school building – in The Forsyte Saga and other writings. For over sixty years, the house was home to a number of eminent owners including the Governor General of the Bank of England and its last owner, Sir Frederick Pascoe Rutter. In 1971 The Sisters of the Holy Cross bought the school and the first lay Headteacher, Mrs Hayes, was appointed in 1992.
